One of the traditions by John Glenn High School around Homecoming is the selection of the King and Queen. On Monday September 11th, the top 10 candidates for boys and girls were selected and announced. It was the juniors and the seniors that were able to vote for the top 10. Then on Friday September 15th, each of the top 10 candidates gave a speech to the entire student body. On Monday September 18th, the student body will vote for the courts which will consist of three girls and three boys.The boy and girl receiving the most votes will be the King and the Queen. The following will tell you a little bit about each candidate.
Our first candidate is Jenna Pethtel. Her parents are Eric and Christine Pethtel. Jenna plays basketball, runs cross-country and track, is on the dance team, in NHS, is the treasurer of Ambassador Club, in BPA, and is a social chairperson in Student Council. Jenna’s future plans are to attend a college or university to study Pre-Dentistry and become an orthodontist. Her favorite memory of JGHS is qualifying for regionals in cross-country her Sophomore year. Jenna’s favorite Homecoming game is the scooter relays.
The next candidate is Rachel Saltz. Her parents are Jeffrey Saltz Sr. and Charlotte Saltz. Rachel is on the golf team, is part of the dance team, in Student Council, Ambassador Club, Key Club and Spirit Club. Her future plans are to attend college to major in pharmacy, business, or law. Rachel’s favorite memory is of Homecoming week. She loves the activities and themes along with the excitement of the game and dance. Rachel’s favorite Homecoming game is the scooter races.
Our third candidate is Alexa Harshbarger. Her parents are Teresa and Eric Harshbarger. Alexa plays volleyball, club volleyball, is in NHS, and also in Key Club. Alexa’s future plans are to obtain a bachelors of science in pharmaceutical sciences at OSU then continue to get her pharmD degree. Her favorite memory of JGHS is of when her and Karlie Zumbro were Freshmen, they had to wait for their moms in a porta-potty after track practice because it was raining. Alexa’s favorite Homecoming game is dodgeball.
The next candidate is Mollie Founds. Her parents are Darren and Sherry Founds. Mollie is part of the volleyball team at John Glenn. Her future plans are to stay close to home and major in a science field. Her favorite memories of JGHS are going to regionals with the volleyball team and witnessing the boys basketball team win a state title. Mollie’s favorite Homecoming game is dodgeball.
The fifth candidate is Drew Baker. Her parents are Heather Baker and Andrew Baker. Drew is on the golf team, in Key Club, Ambassador Club, NHS, BPA, Student Council, and CYF. Her future plans are to continue her education at either Cleveland State University or University of Akron. Her favorite memory of JGHS is making so many great friends at this school. Drew’s favorite Homecoming game is scooter races.
The next candidate is Brooke Wilkins. Her parents are Mindy Fleming and Ron Wilkins. Brooke is the President of FCCLA, President of NHS, and Secretary of the 2018 class. Her future plans are to attend college and to someday hopefully live in Canandaigua, New York. Her favorite memory of JGHS is eating lunch with Chris Smith everyday which she says is “always an adventure.” Brooke’s favorite Homecoming game is scooter races.
Our seventh candidate is Ann Marie Pickworth. Her parents are Tim and Marj Pickworth. Ann Marie’s activities are lifting, volunteering at the animal shelter as well as the Beckett House and hanging out with friends. Her future plans are to attend Muskingum University and become an occupational therapist. Her favorite memory of JGHS is when she and Ali were freshman, and they would send notes and flowers to seniors from Nicole and she didn’t know. Ann Marie’s favorite Homecoming game is Dress up relay.
Our first King candidate is Tyler Walker. His parents are Jason and Sandi Walker. Tyler is on the football team, runs track, in Key Club, Ambassador Club, YAF, and FCS. Tyler’s future plans are to attend college to double major in education and history. His favorite memory of JGHS is celebrating the night of the State Championship.
Our second candidate is Eric Johnson. His parents are Trent and Shelly Johnson. Eric is on the football team and a member of BPA. His future plans are to hopefully attend Muskingum University to major in nursing. His favorite memories of JGHS are all of the shenanigans in the lunchroom. Eric’s favorite Homecoming game is Tug of War.
Our next candidate is Justin Heacock. His parents are Jeff and Colleen Heacock. Justin is on the football team, basketball team, and the baseball team, he is in NHS, Student Council, BPA, and also a part of Big Brothers Big Sisters. His future plans are to attend a four year university to study business and continue his athletic career. His favorite memory of JGHS is being a part of the basketball team that won the State Championship. Justin’s favorite Homecoming game is dodgeball.
The fourth candidate is Dylan Curtis. His parents are Preston Curtis and Melissa McDonald. Dylan runs cross-country and track. His future plans are to become a gym teacher as well as a cross-country and track coach. Dylan’s favorite memory of JGHS is when Billy Young fell off his car going 45 mph. Dylan’s favorite Homecoming game is warball.
