ZANESVILLE — The newly opened Movement on Main Center for Dance located at 531 Main St., Zanesville, will be hosting a summer dance program with sessions running June 21 through July 17 and July 26 through Aug. 21. A wide variety of classes will be offered for ages three to adult in modern/contemporary, ballet, pointe, jazz, creative dance, dance improvisation, adult dance, pilates, yoga, and zumba.
Tuition starts at $22 to $28 per four week session depending on age. A special offered for adults includes unlimited classes for four weeks in adult dance classes, pilates, yoga, and zumba for only $25.
The program is directed by Whitney Joseph who is currently a senior at Ohio University-Athens where she is working toward a B.F.A. in dance performance and choreography. Her studies at Ohio University have included a strong foundation of dance pedagogy and kinesiology. With her training in dance studies, Joseph has developed a dance center that is committed to both creative and technical dance training. The program strives to nourish the creativity of the students while guiding them with encouragement rather than competition. All classes are designed to develop dance technique, the creative mind, cooperation, and personal growth.
While Joseph will be instructing the majority of classes, dance majors from Ohio University and Ball State University are planned to guest teach in order to provide the students with a variety of instruction. Also, Mindy Musgrave will be leading zumba classes and Allison Weeks will be instructing pilates.
