Muskingum University Homecoming set

NEW CONCORD Muskingum University will have its annual Homecoming celebration on Oct. 21-22. Some of the events include: Varsity Revue, Muskie football, the Homecoming Parade, Athletic Hall of Fame awards and the first ever Fun Run. The 2011 Athletic Hall of Fame recipients will be: Coach Donna Newberry (posthumous), James Grandey 99, Erica Hoyt 06, and Kevin Woods 87. Trick or Treat set

NEW CONCORD Trick or Treat night has been set for Monday, Oct. 31 from 6 to 7 p.m. in New Concord. If you plan to participate, please turn your porch light on.

Halloween safety program set

NEW CONCORD The New Concord Branch Library will be having a Halloween safety program on Wednesday, Oct. 26 at 6 p.m.

Muskingum University Security, in conjunction with the New Concord Police Department, will present a program on Halloween and road safety for Trick or Treaters.

Children attending the program will receive a goodie bag.

Ghosthunting in Ohio

ZANESVILLE Author John Kachuba of Ghosthunting Ohio: On the Road Again will be at the John McIntire Library in Zanesville on Thursday Oct. 20 at 6:30 p.m.

On this leg of Americas Haunted Road Trip, hell explore the scariest spots in the Buckeye State. Kachuba visited more than 30 legendary haunted places, all of which are open to the public.

The author will discuss each site, snooping around eerie rooms and dark corners, talking to people who swear to their paranormal experiences, and giving us a first-hand account.

Copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing from the author.

Cooking during the Great Depression discussion

ZANESVILLE Dr. Lorle Porter will give an informational titled, Saras Table: Cooking during the Great Depression and World War II on Saturday, oct. 8 at 2 p.m.

This is a social history of how Ohio women coped with shortages in supplies and cash during these epochal moments.

Dr. Porter is Professor Emerita from Muskingum University. During her long career, she has been awarded the Outstanding Teacher (1998) by the Ohio Academy of History and elected to the Ohio Womans Hall of Fame in 2000.
