Anniversary: Charles "Bill" and Linda Smith

Charles "Bill" and Linda Smith of New Concord celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary Dec. 31, 2009.

On Dec. 31, 1959, Linda Johnson, daughter of the late Charlie and Wilma (Sharkey) Johnson, and Charles Smith, son of the late Jerry and Mildred (McFee) Smith, were united in marriage at the United Methodist Church in Chandlersville.

The late Rev. Hytes officiated the ceremony.

Mr. Smith retired from American Electric Power Co., Cambridge.

The couple have served as foster parents to 53 children.

They have four children, Cynthia (Greg Belts) Smith of Newcomerstown, William "Bill" (Debbie) Smith, Dana (Tina) Smith and Melanie (Jim Flesher) Hauenstein, all of New Concord.

Completing the family circle are nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Family and friends are invited to attend a reception, hosted by their children, to celebrate the special occasion from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 3 at Guernsey-Muskingum Electric, 17 S. Liberty St., New Concord.

The couple requests no gifts.
