Piano recital held

ZANESVILLE — Students of Guernsey County native and piano instructor T’wana Mehaffey presented the 27th annual piano recital May 2 at the Christian Missionary and Alliance Church.

The recital featured 10 local students. 

Musicians and the selections they performed include:

• Noah Townsend, New Concord — The Happy Farmer (Schumann), Turkey in the Straw duet with T. Mehaffey (folk song)

• Josiah Townsend, New Concord — Mississippi Hot Dog (Suzuki)

• Sarah Townsend, New Concord — Musette (anonymous)

• Teya Townsend, New Concord  — Go Tell Aunt Rhody (folk song)

• Ashley Townsend, New Concord — Christmas Day Secrets (Dutton)

• Taylor Gorrell, McConnelsville — Ecossaise (Hummel)

• Paige Gorrell, McConnelsville — Little Playmates (Chwatal)

• Abbie Hivnor, Cambridge — Cuckoo (German folk song)

• Pam Hivnor, Cambridge — Morning has Broken, duet with T. Mehaffey (Gaelic tune)

• Katie Hivnor, Cambridge — Song for a Scarecrow (Bowman).

Other communities represented include Zanesville, Newark, Frazeysburg, Pataskala, Dublin, Somerset, Blue Rock, Hopewell and Millersport.

In all, students presented 43 selections.

Mehaffey teaches both the traditional and Suzuki styles.
