NEW CONCORD -- Noble County resident Delores Rossiter, 60, of Old Infirmary Road, Pleasant City, was killed Monday morning in a two-vehicle accident on Interstate 70, approximately one mile east of the New Concord exit.
Mrs. Rossiter was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Guernsey County Coroner Dr. Janet Brockwell was dispatched to the crash site.
Icy road conditions in the area were considered a factor in the crash in Westland Township that was reported to authorities at approximately 8 a.m.
The driver of the second vehicle, John L. Hoffman, 59, Zanesville, was taken by New Concord EMS to Genesis-Good Samaritan Hospital in Zanesville, where he was reportedly treated in the emergency department.
No additional information regarding his condition was available. His injuries were not expected to be life-threatening.
According to the Cambridge post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Mrs. Rossiter was westbound on I-70 driving a 2001 Ford Ranger when the truck went off the right side of the roadway and struck a guardrail.
The compact pickup truck continued back across the westbound lanes and through the median before colliding with an eastbound 2001 Dodge Durango operated by Hoffman.
The front of the Durango struck the passenger side of the Ranger.
Both heavily-damaged vehicles came to rest on the eastbound lanes of I-70, blocking the driving lane.
New Concord and Cassell Station firefighters were dispatched to the scene to assist with extricating the victims from the vehicles.
Ohio Department of Transportation workers also responded to the crash site.
Mrs. Rossiter was reportedly not wearing a safety belt, while Hoffman was wearing a seat belt.
The accident remained under investigation by the highway patrol.
