Linda Secrest files to run for state representative

Published:

Linda Secrest, of Cambridge, has filed her petitions to run for state representative of the 93rd Ohio House District, currently held by Rep. Jennifer Garrison, D-Marietta.

Secrest, who serves as executive director of the Alcohol and Drug Services center of Guernsey County, is a longtime resident of southeast Ohio and an active member of the community.

"I have built my career and raised my family in southeast Ohio and I understand not just the unique challenges we face right now, but also the irrepressible spirit of the people here," Secrest said. "I look forward to the chance to serve the community and match that spirit with my own sense of dedication on behalf of the constituents of the 93rd District."

Current Rep. Jennifer Garrison and Assistant Majority Floor Leader Rep. Allan Sayre, D-Dover, also announced their support and endorsements of Secrest's candidacy.

"Linda's dedication to the Southeast Ohio community is unquestioned, and her career is a testament to the hard work and commitment that will be the hallmark of her full-time representation of the 93rd District," Garrison said. "Linda will bring to the job of state representative the same values and sense of public service that inspired me to hold this position as well. She understands the priorities we must set for the Ohio and the counties of the 93rd District in order to improve our region and move our state forward."

Secrest is a member of College Drive Presbyterian Church, a board member of the Family First Council and a member of the Cambridge Art Guild. Additionally, she has served on the Guernsey County Health Department Board and as a parent volunteer of East Muskingum Schools.

Public service is an important and longstanding tradition in Linda's family. Her husband Joe is head of the State Controlling Board of Ohio, and her uncle is a former congressman.

"We welcome Linda to the team of highly qualified and inspired candidates that we have running this year," Sayre said. "She has the experience, credentials, and support to make her not just a strong candidate for the office, but also the strongest representative in Columbus. With the challenges we face amidst this national recession, Linda is the right person to fight for the future success and prosperity of our state."

Linda and her husband Joe live in Cambridge. They have two grown daughters, Courtney and Whitney.
