NEW CONCORD — Celebrate New Concord (CNC), the summer entertainment series which this year marks its 10th anniversary, announced a special, “best of” season for the summer of 2010.

All performances are free and open to the public. Each will take place at 7 p.m. in Village Park in downtown New Concord, except for the Friday, July 9 performance, which will be held as a part of the New Concord Fireman’s Festival.

The 2010 season is as follows: Tuesday, June 1, The Muskingum Valley Symphonic Winds; Tuesday, June 15, The Jones Family Quartet and Friends; Friday, July 9, The Dick Simcox Big Band at the New Concord Fireman’s Festival (rain location: New Concord Elementary School); Tuesday, July 20, The University of Akron Steel Drum Band; Tuesday, Aug. 3, Northwest Territory; and Tuesday, Aug. 17, The Jerry Weaver Good Time Jazz Band.

In announcing the special anniversary season, CNC Committee Chairman Rod Lang said, “The committee decided that CNC’s 10th anniversary deserved a very special season, so, we’ve brought back all of the most popular groups we’ve ever hosted. These are everyone’s favorites.”

Also special to the 2010 season is the performance on Friday, July 9 at the New Concord Fireman’s Festival.

Lang explained, “We’re really pleased that we’re holding a performance at the New Concord Fireman’s Festival. This is something we’ve talked about for several years and it’s finally happening. The committee’s hope is that it will be a feather in the cap of the community, CNC and the Fireman’s Festival.”

Celebrate New Concord is sponsored by the Village of New Concord, the New Concord Board of Trade, RENE, Muskingum University and the members of the Celebrate New Concord Patronage Program.

“None of this is possible without our sponsors and, in particular, the members of our patronage program,” Lang said. “If it weren’t for our patronage program members, CNC would be much harder to accomplish every year, if we could do it at all.”

The Celebrate New Concord Patronage Program allows organizations or individuals to make financial contributions to support the summer series.

“The response this year has been outstanding,” Lang said, “and we’re looking forward to even more support. Last year, contributions continued throughout the summer, and we hope that’s true this year.”

Lang pointed out that an investment in the patronage program amounts to an investment in the community.

“The people who support us want CNC to be a part of the greater New Concord community, and the more the contributions grow, the more CNC can grow. When that happens, everybody wins. The committee works very hard to see to it that we put on the best season possible, every year. These folks volunteer their time all year, and they’re committed to a bigger and better season every year. Without the patrons, though, we just couldn’t do it.”

The Celebrate New Concord committee is made up of Lang as chairman, New Concord Mayor Greg Adams, Janice Hutchison, Clyta Young, Robert Owen Jones and Jeff Harman.

Anyone interested in contributing to the patronage program may do so by stopping by New Concord Village Hall during regular business hours to pick up an enrollment form.
