Skate Park grand opening July 17

NEW CONCORD — The efforts of many people will come to fruition this month when construction on an expanded SkateSpot  was truly a “grand” opening on July 17.

What can be more grand for a skate park than to have it initiated by a professional skateboarder?

Indeed, famed skateboarder Doug Brown visited the village to lead participants in his Skate Smart program. Brown also dazzled those present with a performance of some of his tricks.

To top it off, Brown lended his expert eye to the festivities as he served as judge for the skate contests that unfolded that day. Awards went to the tapped contestants for “Best Trick” and “Best Overall Performance.”

Those awards came in the form of prizes, including a $50 Applebees gift certificate, several $25 Applebees gift certificates, a skate deck from ARC, T-shirts, gift baskets, an Applebees skateboard and AMC T-shirts.

Music was provided by Levi Funk’s Band and WMCO broadcasted live from the event. Mayor Greg Adams cut the ribbon “officially” opening the park.

New Concord SkateSpot is located on John Glenn School Road, adjacent to the NCAP Pool.
