COLUMBUS -- Police believe they have located the vehicle that struck and killed Eric Kirkbride, 25, Zanesville, as he worked with a Shelly & Sands Crew on Interstate 70 Wednesday morning.
Kirkbride was pronounced dead at the scene on I-70 near U.S. 33.
The vehicle that struck him failed to stop following the collision at approximately 1:30 a.m.
Columbus police investigators declined to identify where the Chevrolet Tahoe was found. The sport-utility vehicle sustained significant damage to the front end.
Police reportedly questioned an individual identified as a "person of interest." No charges had been filed as of press time Thursday.
According to reports, Kirkbride's father and uncle were working on the same crew as Kirkbride at the time of the accident.
Kirkbride's father is reportedly a foreman while his uncle operates heavy equipment.
The impact with the SUV reportedly sent Kirkbride airborne, striking a truck operated by his uncle.
Police said a Shelly & Sands employee was nearly struck by a vehicle a week ago while working on the opposite side of I-70.
The employee was not injured.
The accident remained under investigation by Columbus police.
