Center for Seniors to note Senior Citizens Month

ZANESVILLE — In celebration of National Senior Citizens Month, the Muskingum County Center for Seniors has chosen the week of Sept. 13-17 to honor Muskingum County Seniors. 

Each day, they will be showcases special events, as well as the seniors performing their daily activities throughout the week. Other special events in the week include the following: 

• On Monday, Sept. 13 at 1:30 p.m., they will be featuring a Green Cleaning Tip and Hints workshop, which will feature recipes for home cleaning products, such as laundry detergent, Febreeze, fabric and floor cleaners. Each person attending the class will take home some products. Cost of the class is $5. Register at the front desk if you are interested. That night from 6 to 8 p.m., there will be art show featuring the Senior Art Painting Showcase. Everyone present will be in a drawing to win a copy of a painting. Refreshments will be served.

• On Tuesday, Sept. 14, Diabetic Expo will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Diabetic Support Initiative will be here to provide information and conduct diabetic screening for anyone age 55 and older. Light refreshments will be available.

• A style show will be on Wednesday, Sept. 15. Lunch will be served at 11:15 a.m. Style show will be at noon. Tickets for lunch will be required. Clothing from TJ Max, Elder Beerman, Bon Worth, and Jillian’s will be modeled. 

• The “Open House” will be Thursday, Sept. 16. They will feature a new and ongoing Wellness Program, including different exercises such as: Arthritic, Zemba Gold, Tai Chi, line dance and various health programs to learn how to make life style changes to stay healthy. Ron Rossler, an honor veteran, will be there to meet and greet in the morning. Complimentary breakfast bar will be available from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. 

Healthy U is a small group workshop that meets once a week for six weeks starting on Thursday, Sept. 16 at 8:30 to 11 a.m. This is for any one with long term health challenges such as asthma, arthritis, heart disease, diabetes and other lifelong conditions. Participants will gain new skills to better manage your chronic conditions and feel healthier. 

David Church and his wife, Terri Lisa, will be coming to the center for seniors on Saturday, Oct. 23. Tickets will be available Aug. 30. Cost of tickets is $15 for advanced reserve, $10 for advance general and $15 for general admission at the door. Proceeds will benefit the center. 

Wayne King Band will provide the music the Friday night dance Sept. 3. There will be a 50/50 drawing and door prizes. Admission is $3 per person. Linda Edmondson, RN from the Zanesville Muskingum County General Health District, will conduct a health assessment clinic at center for seniors Sept. 1 and Abbot Home Sept. 2 from 9 to 11 a.m.
