NEW CONCORD -- The Southeastern Ohio Symphony Orchestra (SEOSO) announced its 2010-2011 season, "Friends United in Music," which opens Oct. 24.
Both season and individual performance tickets are on sale now, and can be purchased by calling the SEOSO office at 826-8197 or by logging on to www.seoso.org. Individual tickets are $12 each, and a variety of association membership packages are available, starting at $40. Tickets can also be purchased at the door prior to each performance.
Conducted by Music Director Dr. Laura Schumann, the season will begin Sunday, Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. in Brown Chapel on the campus of Muskingum University.
The opening performance is the Karen Brown Memorial Concert, honoring the orchestra's long-time supporter and manager emeritus, who passed away earlier this year. It will feature guitarist Robert Gruca, and includes Mendelssohn's "Reformation Symphony." Gruca will also perform "Fantasia Para un Gentilhombre" and "Concerto Aranjuez" by the Spanish composer Joaquin Rodrigo.
The orchestra also receives funding support from the Ohio Arts Council, a state agency that supports public programs in the arts.
In addition to its regular performance schedule, SEOSO uses part of its ticket proceeds to support a wide variety of education and community outreach programs, including the Doug Lyle Elementary School Outreach and The Alato Trio, which has performed before thousands of elementary school students in Ohio, as well as many other audiences.
