NEW CONCORD — Dr. Rick Barstow, who has operated a dental practice in the village for 35 years, has repeated a tradition and “passed the torch” to a new generation.
Dr. Joe R. Joseph acquired the Barstow dental practice on Oct. 29 after Barstow had decided to retire.
For Barstow, the transition has brought him full circle. He had taken over the practice of Dr. Raymond Young in April 1975.
“I can’t believe it’s been so many years,” Barstow said.
“Although it has been a difficult decision, I have found a true gentleman and an extremely skilled practitioner to continue providing our patients with the excellent, personalized and caring treatment they have come to expect from our office over the years.”
A native of Warren, Dr. Joseph earned his dental degree from The Ohio State University College of Dentistry in 1992.
As the transition occurs, the practice will become known as New Concord Family Dental.
“I want to continue with the high standards the people of New Concord have come to expect,” Joseph said.
Joseph said he shares the friendly attitude and professional philosophies that had made Dr. Barstow an icon in the village’s professional community.
A believer in leading-edge technology, Joseph plans to incorporate more of the current dental technology and techniques that have become available now.
“I want to make [dentistry] a more pleasant experience,” he said. “And I will continue to progress the practice.”
Dr. Barstow will continue assisting at the practice through February and may do some occasional, special procedures.
Continuing on in the practice will be Missy Glenn, dental assistant; Wendy Babcock, dental hygienist; and Anita Smith, office manager.
