John LoweThe New Concord LeaderNEW CONCORD -- Ken Blood was re-elected president when the East Muskingum Local Board of Education organized for 2011.Elected vice president was Brian Bennett. Board members agreed to keep the monthly meeting time the same: 7:30 p.m. on the second Thursday.In another matter, the board expressed appreciation to Frank Gregory for his years at the helm of John Glenn High School.Gregory will retire from the principal position with his last day being Jan. 21.Steve Brooks and Doug Spade will serve as co-principals for the balance of the school year.In a contractual matter, the board approved a five-year contract with Muskingum University for use of the university's stadium.John Glenn High School's home football games and track meets will continue to take place at the stadium."There have been rumors that we were looking to build our own stadium," Johnson said. "That is not the case. In these financial times, that would be irresponsible."In other business, Superintendent Jill Johnson expressed appreciation to the school board members on the occasion of School Board Recognition Month.Johnson said the district's board is exceptional both in terms of setting standards for strong, student, academic performance and for practicing sound financial management."You each bring your own background and passion to the table," Johnson said. "However, you operate as a unit with the result always being what's best for kids."jlowe@daily-jeff.com
