ZANESVILLE -- Fine clothing for the discriminating gentleman and lady has returned to Zanesville with the renaissance of Wade's Clothing on the north side of town.
The store reopened on Jan. 28 and the owners are excited to extend what they believe is a much needed product and service to the community of Muskingum County and surrounding areas.
Partners Shellie and Jay Benson and Star (Cable) and Doug Pickrell arranged for a month of remodeling before reopening the doors to a store that has a history extending back to 1974.
"The same [clothing] lines that made the store great are still here," Jay Benson said. "We have new names as well. We're trying to stay on top of the fashion trends."
Exemplifying that philosophy are lines such as Fresh and Kuhl, the latter line catering to the outdoors lifestyle but both lines geared toward the younger set.
With the remodeling have come a lady's boutique as well as additional dressing rooms.
Find fashion lines such as Troll, Vera Bradley, Brighton and Joseph Ribkoff, a designer label that is value priced.
Also in the boutique are purses and accessories such as some jewelry and designer reading glasses and sunglasses.
For the men, Wade's Clothing offers lines of classic suits such as Jack Victor and Hartsafner & Marks, a line still made in America.
"We have a number of lines that are still made in America," Benson said, "and we're partial to them. But we do have imported lines as well."
On hand to help ensure customer satisfaction with the service of Wade's Clothing is the well-known general manager, Bruce Barclay.
What motivated the Bensons and the Pickrells to reopen the store?
"There was an outcry from the community," Benson said. "In the classic sense, we're a haberdashery.
"Even people from the surrounding counties who like the level of service we endeavor to give said Wade's Clothing is needed."
Fine clothing and a high level of service is a combination difficult to find.
"We're not trying to denigrate other stores," said Benson, "but there are not many that have any tailors.
"Our tailors take the clothing and customize the fit to our patrons."
In addition to selling clothing, Wade's does a substantial rental business for occasions such as proms and weddings.
Wade's Clothing is located at 3546 Maple Ave. Hours are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays; from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays; and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays.
