ZANESVILLE -- The month of May just got a little greener for seven local schools.Cash awards totaling $20,000 were announced by Colony Square Mall, promoter of the My School's Cool rewards program.Since August, local schools have been competing for the funds by collecting mall receipts and participating in mall programs. Their efforts are converted into points, which determine each school's standing in the competition.After calculating each school's percentage of the total points earned, the $20,000 pot was divided accordingly among the seven participating schools: Bishop Fenwick Elementary, Falls Elementary, Franklin Local Community School, Hopewell Elementary, John McIntire Elementary, New Concord Elementary and Zane Grey Elementary.The top performing school, Bishop Fenwick, earned $5,961.12; New Concord was second, earning $4,372.49; a close third was Franklin Local Community School, which earned $4,223.35. Hopewell Elementary earned $2,944.57; John McIntire earned $2,342.63; Zane Grey received $124.29 and Falls earned $31.55.My School's Cool will return for the 2011-2012 school year. Schools will compete September through April for a share of $20,000.
