Last week at the Guernsey County Fair, John Glenn students participated in showing different animals.
Of those students, senior AJ Pennell and freshman Paige Pennell both showed their market hogs. My favorite part of the fair is showmanship, where judging is how you look, not how your hog looks, said AJ. He has been showing for nine years and only has one year remaining. Paiges favorite part of the fair, on the other hand, is showing and selling her pigs, eating the food, and enjoying the rides.
While AJ and Paige showed hogs, their cousins, junior Tim Neptune and junior Troy Neptune, showed their cattle.
Throughout the fair, Tim and Troy showed how dedicated they were to their calves. I might as well sleep with my calves because Im at the barn every day, said Tim.
Troy thought missing school for the fair was worth it. He said, It can be a pain to make up the work, but I wouldnt change it for anything.
Troy placed second in his class and Tim placed third in his class at the Market Feeder Calf Show.
