Businesses go ‘over and above’ in their support of East Muskingum schools

NEW CONCORD Members of the administration and board of the East Muskingum Local School District lauded five local businesses and their representatives for the superlative support they have given to the school district.

Initiated into the inaugural Ohio School Boards Association Business Honor Roll were AMG Vanadium, Century National Bank, Huntington Bank, Resource Systems and Shegogs IGA.

School Board members recognized the contributions of the businesses through people representing them, namely, Colleen Heacock, Janice Hutchison, Derrick Gingerich, Eileen and Greg Adams and George Shegog.

As members of the board and administration were considering possible honorees, they looked for the businesses that had gone over and above the support that the district might reasonably expect of a business, Superintendent Jill Johnson said.

As we were considering nominees, there were [names of] businesses that bubbled up, Johnson said. You are the ones.

Its not just the writing of a check, she said. Youre at almost everything I am at. Youre on the fences, youre cooking and selling the hot dogs, youre beating on the doors for our levy campaigns.

Its the sweat, the passion you put into it. Its your heart that makes up appreciate you.

In another matter, the school board heard a report on the energy efficiencies the district has realized in the past six years.

Because of those efficiencies, the district pays no more than it did in 2005 for natural gas supplies, said Tom Erlenwein of Johnson Controls.

In fact, the most recent years gas expense was $87,903 less than the gas expense in 2005 that despite increased utility costs.
