New Concord OKs budget

NEW CONCORD The budget for the village will shrink a tad in 2012, but still will tally nearly $3 million.

Councilman and finance committee Chairman Bill McCoach said this years permanent appropriations are down about $78,000.

He told council that his committee recommended approval of the budget.

Taking up his recommendation and acting on an emergency basis, council unanimously adopted an ordinance establishing the permanent appropriations for 2012 at $2.9 million.

In another financial matter, the renewal premium for liability insurance will rise by about $900 from approximately $26,000 to $27,000, McCoach said.

But the rate is not going up, he said. We just have more assets covered. The insurance rate remains the same.

Among other action, council:

Learned of the make-up of the Village Planning Commission: Chairman Bill McCoach, Al Chaffee, Colleen Heacock, Robert Dickson and Mayor Greg Adams.

Reviewed police and fire department reports. Police Chief Ed Stewart said his officers are taking a proactive approach, a preventative approach, in trying to deter crime.
