Fire damage at $100,000 in county

NEW CONCORD Damage was estimated at $100,000 after a fire late Thursday morning destroyed a machine shed on Arch Hill Road in eastern Muskingum County.

Also lost in the fire were the contents of the 30-by-60 foot shed including equipment, tractors, golf carts, tires and wool from sheep at the Watson Farm.

The fire was reported at approximately 10:30 a.m. and several area fire departments including New Concord and Perry Township volunteer firefighters responded to the scene to battle the blaze.

Adamsville and Washington Township firefighters also provided mutual aid at the scene.

According to New Concord Fire Chief Brent Gates, the shed was fully involved when the first firefighters arrived.

Firefighters used approximately 7,000 gallons of water to extinguish the remaining fire and protect nearby livestock.

The cause of the fire, which started in the northeast corner of the building, remained under investigation by Perry Township fire investigators.
