Mid-East hires West as Adult Heavy Equipment Operator instructor

Andy West was recently selected as the Adult Heavy Equipment Operator program instructor for Mid-East Adult Education. 

West will instruct adult students in this new 19-week program that provides training for students who wish to prepare for jobs as a heavy equipment operators. A combination of hands-on lab and classroom activities provide experience and knowledge necessary to help students gain employment in this growing career field. Students will receive instruction regarding safe equipment operations, mechanical pre-inspections and equipment maintenance through training on excavators, backhoes, loaders, dozers, skid steers and tele-handlers. Students will also attend the American Professional Truck Driving School for their Class A CDL training. 

In addition, students will receive Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 10-hour construction safety training; Safeland/Rig Pass training; and American Safety and Health Institute (ASHI) First Aid and CPR training.

West brings a wide range of experience in the commercial and residential excavating industry from the central and southeastern Ohio regions. With more than 22 years of project management experience he has managed all types of projects including site preparation, municipal utility installation, underground storage tank installs and removals, and road construction and repair. 

West began his career in equipment operations with the J. M. West Construction Company, his family’s incorporated excavating business. In addition to his experience as an operator he attended and completed the Hobart Welding School Program and holds a Class A commercial driver’s license from the State of Ohio.

These added skills will enhance his ability to instruct students at Mid-East and prepare them for careers in one of the fastest growing employment areas in the region and nationwide. 

Being born and raised in Muskingum County, he is committed to improving the workforce in our community and enjoys spending time with his family on their farm in Chandlersville.

The Adult Education division of Mid-East has three scheduled Heavy Equipment Operator classes for the 2013-14 school year. In addition to the current class, two more will be offered with start dates of Jan. 6 and April 22, 2014.
