Most people only know about the athletic teams at John Glenn High School, but a lot of the students at JGHS play on a club team for one of these sports. Whether its basketball, volleyball, baseball or hockey, the athletes enjoy developing their skills outside of school.

Sophomore Taylour Fatheree plays on a club volleyball team called S.W.A.T. Her team is made up of other girls from different schools in the local area. My favorite thing about playing a club sport is I can play my favorite sport year-round, said Fatheree.

Playing on these club teams gives players another look at the college life as well. Most of their tournaments are held at colleges. College scouts attend these tournaments and some are recruiting. Participating in these tournaments help the young athletes talents get noticed. It also gives them the chance to decide what is important to them: playing a sport in college or not.

People think that athletes play on these club teams just to be noticed by college scouts for their talents, but really it also gives them the opportunity to meet new people and make new friends.

Playing on my club baseball team, gives me the opportunity to make new friends from other schools, said sophomore Chase Brown.

Participating in these sports helps these athletes express themselves as well. Club teams help athletes improve their skills for their regular school teams.

Playing basketball all-year round helps me improve myself as a teammate and individual, said freshman Collen Thomas. Thomas plays on a traveling basketball team called the Shooting Stars.

These teams are not just thrown together; it takes time and preparation to build one. The athletes do not just goof around; they work hard at what they do. They want to follow their dreams, and some dreams involve playing the game they love.
