NEW CONCORD Muskingum University played its home opener under ideal conditions Wednesday afternoon and swept a doublehader against Malone University.
The Lady Muskies won the opener, 5-3, and captured the nightcap by a 7-6 count.
Muskingum is now 6-6 on the season while Malone is 1-10.
In the opener, Brittany Folk (2-2) got the pitching win, working five innings before Ashley Price came on to record a save.
Muskingum jumped on top with a four-run first inning and pounded out a total of 14 hits in the game.
Price collected three singles and an RBI for the Lady Muskies while John Glenn High product Kristyn Heagen belted a two-run home run. Chelsea Kaunert chipped in a double and single; Aly Mazzei had two singles and Jaclynn Hess added a double.
For Malone, Kristen Altzenhoefer collected a home run and double.
In the nightcap, the Lady Muskies rallied from a 5-2 deficit by scoring two runs in the bottom of the fifth and three in the bottom of the sixth and then limited Malone to one run while leaving the tying and go-ahead runs stranded at second and third in the seventh frame.
Price picked up the pitching win in relief of starter Ashley Gilberg. Gilbert had four Ks and two walks in the first three-plus innings while Price posted two strikeouts and one walk.
Price again topped the Lady Muskies at the plate with a double and two singles. Kallie Coy contributed two singles; Courtney Moyer belted a solo home run and Heagen had a double, a single and an RBI.
Lauren Hershberger led Malone with a double, single and two RBI; Desi Givens had two singles and Altzenhoefer lined an RBI triple.
