MARIETTA Recently the Mid Ohio Valley Sports Hall of Fame, which recognizes outstanding achievements of athletes, coaches, officials and contributors in a seven-county area in West Virginia and Ohio, selected a dozen members as the elected class of 2012.
This will be the 15th induction class and they will be enshrined at a June banquet in Marietta.
Included in the 2012 class is a local man, Ryan McConkey, who played his prep basketball in Belpre. He was a standout player for the Belpre Golden Eagles scoring 1,184 career points which broke a school record that had stood for 22 years.
He scored in double figures in 44 consecutive games and capped his senior season averaging 26 points and nearly 10 rebounds a game which earned him second team all-Ohio honors.
Following high school, he played four years at Muskingum (College) University where he led the Fighting Muskies in scoring both his junior and senior seasons and was selected as the teams Most Valuable Player.
McConkey, has since earned both his Masters and Doctorate Degrees in physical therapy and is a physical therapist with Southeastern Regional Medical Center Physical Therapy Department. He and his wife Jana (Marlatt) live in Cambridge.
