Muskies get MVL golf win; Colts snare runner-up slot

NEW CONCORD — Continuing their winning ways, the host John Glenn Muskies remained unbeaten in Muskingum Valley League play with a 148-181 win over the visiting Sheridan Generals Tuesday on the back nine at Wildfire Golf Course.

Pacing the Muskies was match medalist freshman Dylan Van Fossen who carded a two-under par 34. Other scorers for John Glenn (43-8 overall, 11-0 MVL) were Nathaniel Bennett with a par 36, Jordan Wheeler close behind at 37 and Christian Taylor with a 41.

With the loss Sheridan slips to 5-7 in MVL play and the Generals were led by Tyler Fisher who shot a 42. Jacob Miller was close behind at 43, while Heath Altier added a 46 and Austin Dittoe rounded out the team scoring shooting a 50.

NEXT — John Glenn plays Crooksville at Perry Country Club today at 4 p.m.

CADIZ — On the strength of a pair of 38s, the Weirton Madonna golf team posted an easy win in a Tuesday afternoon three-way event at the Cadiz Country Club. 

Meadowbrook and host Harrison Central each posted team scores of 178, with the runner-up spot going to the Colts thanks to a sixth-man tie breaker.

Thomas Gianni and Nick Mazur from Madonna were co-medalists with their two-over par efforts.

The Meadowbrook numbers looked like this : Nate Frencik 43; Damon Moore 44; Zach Clair 45; DevinWebster 46; Ian West 48; Cameron May 50.

Madonna is now 42-11 overall. Meadowbrook is 52-24 and Harrison Central is 13-5.

NEXT — Meadowbrook and Cambridge play Wheeling Park at Oglebay Park’s Speidel Course today at 1 p.m.

WOODSFIELD — The Magnolia (WV) High linksters found the Switzerland Country Club to their liking on Tuesday, capturing the top spot in a five-way golf event. 

Not surprisingly, then a Blue Don took medalist honors as Peyton Moore fired a one-over par 36 to pace his team to a 169 total.

The rest of the field finished as follows : Barnesville 200; Tyler (WV) 206; host Monroe Central 224; Bellaire St. Johns 234.

Aspen Bauman and Jacob Carpenter each shot 48s to pace the Barnesville scoring. Teammate Sam Leach shot a 49, while teammates Corey Seneff and Dillon Freeman tied with 55s. Ben Anderson also shot a 70.

NEXT — Barnesville joins Buckeye Trail, Bishop Donahue and Bridgeport in a quad match Thursday at Salt Fork Golf Course starting at 4:15 p.m.

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — Behind match medalist Alexandra Weigarth’s 45, the visiting Tri-Valley Lady Scotties posted a 216-252 victory over the host Barnesville Shamrocks Tuesday at Belmont Hills Country Club.

Other scorers for the Lady Scotties were Gabby Lane with a 55, Alaina Slope in at 57, while Sierra Shirer and Alisha Jenkins each carded a 59.

Three players, Maci McEndree, Ciara Bauman and Paige Hayes each shot 62 to lead the Lady ’Rocks, while Courtney Davidson rounded out the team scoring firing a 66.

NEXT — The Barnesville girls will join Claymont at Tri-Valley at Big Bend Golf Course Thursday, Sept. 12.
