NEW CONCORD — The Muskingum University men’s soccer team picked up a 2-1 victory over the College of Wooster on Wednesday night in the squad’s home opener at McConagha Stadium.
The host Muskies jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after the first half of action, and were able to hold on for the victory.
Muskingum initiated the scoring action when freshman Andreas Pfefferkorn found the back of the net at the 8:32 mark with an assist by John Barr.
Muskingum (1-1) struck a second time at the 36:08 mark by way of another Pfefferkorn goal, his third on the season with Liam Roche picking up the assist, putting the Muskies out front with at 2-0.
Wooster (0-2) picked up their lone goal as Aleksi Pelkonen found the back of the net at the 57:23 to avert the shutout.
Muskies’ goal keeper Will Hess finished with a pair of saves, while Matthew Canter of Wooster collected six saves.
