On the links: John Glenn golfers stay unbeaten

DUNCAN FALLS — John Glenn High remained unbeaten in the Muskingum Valley League with a 153-168 triumph over Philo at Fuller’s Fairways on Thursday.

The Muskies of Coach Chad Orecchio (13-0 MVL, 45-8 overall) were led by Dylan Van Fossen, who carded a two-under par 33. Nate Terry chipped in with a 39; Christian Taylor shot 40 and Derek Crum had 41.

Logan Kirkbride led the Electrics (6-6 MVL) with a 39. Zeke Scott contributed a 40; Logan Jarrett carded 41 and Liam Blake added a 48.

NEXT — John Glenn hosts Maysville at Wildfire Golf Club on Tuesday at 4 p.m.

RAYLAND — The Buckeye Trail Warriors picked up the win in golf action Thursday at Fairway River Links Golf Course. The Warriors (153) beat out runner-up Bishop Donahue (166) by 13 strokes. Bridgeport (176) was third and Barnesville (184) finished fourth.

The Warriors (25-13) were led by co-medalist Evan Archer with a 34, followed by Jed Burga, 36; Will Davis, 40; and Jacob Markel, 43. Archer’s score was the third-best in BTHS school history and the team total marked the ninth-best mark all-time for the Warriors.

Bishop Donahue was paced by co-medalist Stephen Gretchen with a 34 followed by Eric Myers, 40, Gabe Mickey, 45, and Petie Tracher, 57.

Zach Herink led Bridgeport with a 39 while Parker Dyson finished up with a 40, Dylan Nowakaski carded a 48 and Jeff Tennant added a 49. 

The ‘Rocks were led by Jacob Carpenter with a 40. Aspen Bauman followed with a 44; Sam Leach tallied a 49 and Corey Seneff added a 51.

NEXT — Barnesville and Buckeye Trail take part in the OVAC Class 3A Championships next Thursday at 9 a.m. at Oglebay Park’s Crispin Course in Wheeling.

Marietta High scored a victory over Cambridge and Zanesville in Interstate Golf League action at the Cambridge Country Club on Thursday.

The Tigers finished with a 323-stroke total while the Bobcats had 354 and the Blue Devils had 375.

Jeff Hensler was the medalist from Marietta (71-27) with a 72, followed by teammates Nick Thieman (81), Garrett Bertram (81) and Max Fitzgerald (89).

For Cambridge (32-39), Trevor Wilkinson and Jacob Feldner tied for the low score with 80s. Clay McCauley carded a 95 and Trent Alten had 99.

J.J. Burns led Zanesville (11-44) with an 85 followed by Jared Ball (89), Matt Burnell (100) and Joslyn Goins (103).

NEXT — Cambridge hosts Claymont at the Cambridge Country Club on Monday at 4 p.m.

WEST LAFAYETTE — The host Newcomerstown High golfers dropped a 173-194 dual match decision to River View at Hickory Flats on Thursday. 

Newcomerstown’s Jared Brooks and River View’s Ross Anglin each carded 40s to share medalist honors.

The remainder of the Newcomerstown (1-5) scores showed Zach Gibson with a 45, Brendan Tanksley with a 54 and Codi Rothacher with a 55. 

NEXT — Newcomerstown visits Tuscarawas Catholic on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
