The 89th annual Academy Awards will be taking place on February 26 at Dolby Theatre at the Hollywood & Highland Center in California. The Dolby Theatre is a live-performance auditorium in the Hollywood and Highland Shopping Center shopping mall and entertainment complex. The Academy awards honor the year’s best achievements in motion pictures. There are about twenty-four different categories in the Oscars.
The Academy voters made their nominations in all categories on January 24. There was a total number of 6,687 Academy voters as of December 2016. "La La Land" has been up for 14 Academy Award nominations. It has tied the record with "Titanic" and "All About Eve". Meryl Streep has also broken her own record of 20 total nominations for this years Oscars; she has also been nominated Best Actress for her role in "Florence Foster Jenkins".

The nominees for Best actress in a leading role are Isabelle Huppert in "Elle", Ruth Negga in "Loving", Natalie Portman in "Jackie", Emma Stone in "La La Land", and Meryl Streep in "Florence Foster Jenkins". The 5 nominations for Best actor in a leading role are Casey Affleck in "Manchester by the Sea", Andrew Garfield in "Hacksaw Ridge", Ryan Gosling in "La La Land", Viggo Mortensen in "Captain Fantastic", and Denzel Washington in "Fences".
