The John Glenn High School Chapter of the National Honor Society is welcoming applications for new members this week. Prospective members were given information packets last week with information and criteria for applying to National Honor Society. There will be a meeting Thursday morning (February 16) during pride period for these students, and they will be given an opportunity to ask advisors Mrs. Abbott and Miss Bachmann questions about the organization.
Once applications are received and reviewed, applicants will be aware of their acceptance into National Honor Society during the tapping ceremony, where current NHS members will “tap” the new, followed by an assembly to celebrate the accomplishment.
The criteria to be invited to join National Honor Society are quite selective. They include the four pillars of NHS, which are Scholarship, Service, Leadership and Character. A cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale is required, though certain schools may require a higher GPA (JGHS does not). Students also are required to complete acts of community service, done without compensation.
John Glenn’s Chapter of NHS requires 6 hours of community service each semester. Students also must demonstrate leadership and good character, such as cooperativeness, honesty, courtesy, etc.
