As the school year begins to come to an end, students are beginning to be able to apply what they’ve learned or worked for throughout the duration of the year to certain projects and opportunities. All the hard work and effort put in will show in these final months. Many classes are having huge projects to complete throughout the last nine weeks. Other classes have once in a lifetime experiences to end the year with. While tests are being scheduled from now until the end May 25, students have some exciting things to look forward to.
One class that will use the last nine weeks to apply knowledge gained throughout the entire year is government. Government classes are beginning to prepare to start court cases. The court cases that take place are made to resemble what an actual court case would look like inside of a courtroom. Students prepare the court cases over the course of the last nine weeks. The process takes a lot of effort on both the teacher’s and the students’ part. The students research and learn the process that takes place throughout a court case to be able to demonstrate the case in front of judges. Students will take on the part of being a witness or an attorney and will act accordingly to the part. The first week of court cases will take place in the second week in May and court cases should conclude on May 22.
Another class that will be finishing up a year long project is art. Art classes have been working on their portfolios throughout the year. The portfolio consist of 29 pieces of art. It gives the student a way to express themselves. The portfolio consists of the artist’s best work to showcase their style or method. This is used to show their versatility by displaying different samples of their current work. If you plan to continue your education in art and want to pursue a career in the field, this could help you gain acceptance to an art institute.
The John Glenn Band and choir have not only qualified for state, but are also preparing to take a trip. Band and choir students are preparing to perform at Disney World in Florida. The students are excited for this amazing opportunity. They will being leaving on the 16th of March and return on the 21st. The band will perform in a parade whereas the choir will be singing in an auditorium.
The spring sports teams are also preparing to begin their seasons. The track team kicks off their season at the Jerry Neal Invitational at Maysville on March 25 starting at 12:00 PM. The varsity and JV baseball teams will also begin their season on March 25 at Grant Stadium with a doubleheader against New Philly and Licking Valley. Both teams will play at 11:30 AM and 3:30 PM. The softball team starts their season on March 27 at home against New Lex beginning at 5:00 PM.
All of these activities will be fit into about two and half months. This is definitely one of the most exciting times of the year and hopefully students and teachers end the year on a high note.
