ZANESVILLE -- John Glenn High's swim team found much success at the pool on Saturday as the girls' placed second and the boys placed third at the Super Duals at the Zanesville Bishop Rosecrans pool. Athens finished with a 7-0 record to win the girls' meet, beating John Glenn which finished 6-1, 49-44, to seal the title. Julie Morgan anchored the Lady Muskies with wins in the 50 and 100 freestyle races. Katie Morgan took first in the 200 freestyle and second in the 500 freestyle and Miranda Walker captured the 200 individual medley title. Walker, Morgan Gerlach, Julie Morgan and Katie Morgan took second in the 200 medley relay. Gerlach, Sarah Dailey and the Morgan girls took second in the 200 freestyle relay while Gerlach, Dailey, Walker and Kim Bailey took second in the 400 freestyle relay. The boys' placed third behind winner Portsmouth Notre Dame, which finished 7-0. Notre Dame defeated John Glenn, 48-43. Daniel Wells led the Muskies with first place finishes in the 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly. Kevin Bailey placed second in the 500 freestyle. Wells, joined Kyle Jackson, Jakob Lewis and Cody Wells to take second in the 200 medley relay. Lewis, Kevin Bailey and the Wells' also took second in the 400 freestyle relay. NEXT-- John Glenn returns to the Rosecrans pool on Monday at 6 p.m. to face Northridge and Zanesville. * * * * * WHEELING, WV -- The Cambridge High girls' swim team finished second at the St. Clairsville Invitational at Wheeling Jesuit University's pool over the weekend. Paige Carpenetti and Summer Allen anchored the team as major contributors of 39 or the team's 47 total points. Carpenetti captured the 100 backstroke title and placed third in the 200 freestyle while Allen placed second in the 200 individual medley and 100 butterfly races. The two joined forces with Beth Waddell and Rebecca Cline to take second in the 400 freestyle relay and third in the 200 medley relay. Waddell succeeded individually as well, placing second in the 500 freestyle. The Barnesville girls placed fourth with a team total of 27 points. Brandi Bahmer anchored the Shamrocks with a second place finish in the 50 freestyle and a fourth place finish in the 100 freestyle. Taylor Cameron placed sixth in the 200 and 100 freestyle races to add to the Shamrocks' total. Jordan Wells placed sixth in the 50 freestyle to contribute a point. Wells, Cameron and Bahmer teamed up with Rebecca Lowry to take third in the 200 freestyle relay and later joined forces with Kiersten Lucas to take third in the 400 freestyle relay. Martins Ferry won the girls' competition with 66 points, followed by Cambridge with 47, St. Clairsville with 46, Barnesville with 27 and John Marshall with 26. Local schools found less success in the boys' division as Cambridge and Barnesville placed seventh and fourth, respectively. Taylor Allen led the Cambridge charge with a first place finish in the 100 butterfly and the 100 backstroke. Ryan Perkins placed sixth in the 50 freestyle to give the Bobcats a point. Allen, Perkins, Anthony Miller and Matthew Allshouse placed sixth in the 200 and 400 freestyle relays. Shane Warner was the top Shamrock swimmer, placing first in the 200 Freestyle and second in the 100 freestyle. Hunter Yevincy finished second in the 100 butterfly and third in the 200 freestyle while Arick Swallie tied for first in the 50 freestyle. Warner, Yevincy and Swallie, along with Kyle Burkhart, captured fifth in the 200 freestyle relay. The trio joined with Ryan Seneff to take third in the 400 freestyle relay. John Marshall captured the boys' title with a total of 101 points, followed by Beaver Local with 52, St. Clairsville with 46, Barnesville with 39 and Martins Ferry with 28. Cambridge was seventh with 19 points. NEXT-- Cambridge and Barnesville compete at the Rosecrans pool on Tuesday at 6 p.m. Comments
