JG's Larrick, Clark gain top softball honors in MVL

John Glenn High's softball team was rewarded for going unbeaten in the league by having its head coach honored and three of its players named to the first team of the all-Muskingum Valley League squad for 2009.

Head coach Randy Larrick earned "Coach of the Year" honors after guiding the Lady Muskies to a 16-0 league record and three girls - Tori Clark, Jenna Shingary and Ali German - were selected to the MVL first team.

Clark, a sophomore outfielder, shared league "Player of the Year" honors with Tri-Valley's Lyndsey Kight.

Knight is joined on the first team by two teammates from Tri-Valley - a Division II Regional semifinalist -

Courtbney Kerwood and Kayley Bevard.

Also on the first unit are Abby Rhodes and Morgan Murray of Sheridan; Hayley Flynn and Amanda Miller of Philo; Carley Gutridge and Erin Butts of West Muskingum; Jenna Strickler of Maysville; Alyssa Wolfe of New Lexington and Kayla Gorby of Crooksville.

Gaining second team honors were Macey Brosie, Trisha Klass and Rachel Townsend of John Glenn; Jesie Sarbaugh, Julie Sarbaugh of Tri-Valley; Amanda Richards, Ashley Pallone and Brittany Jones of Sheridan; Courtney Wells and Catie McFadden of Maysville; Eleea Smith and Macey Anders of Crooksville; Rachel Thomas and Hannah Robinson of West Muskingum;Ashley Long of Philo; Kassandra Kinsel of New Lexington; and Amanda Minzler of Morgan.

Honorable mention picks were Sydney Brown and Breanna Bradley of John Glenn; Alison Powell and Laney Wilson of Tri-Valley; Heather Snider and Chelsea Nungesser of Sheridan; Alisha Kohler and Essie McBride of West Muskingum; Darcy Tanner and London Baker of Philo; Britni Williams of New Lexington; Chelsea Post of Crooksville; Haley Vallee of Maysville; and Sammie Fisher of Morgan.
