DUNCAN FALLS -- Don Richard McNutt, 85, of Blue Rock, passed away Wednesday (Nov. 11, 2009) in Zanesville. He was born March 17, 1924, Noble County, Brookfield Township, Renrock, son of Mary Lora Reed McNutt and Don Swank McNutt. Mr. McNutt graduated from Muskingum College with a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics and a minor in economics. He also received an advanced degree in mathematics from Tulane University in New Orleans, La. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Don was a very well known and respected educator in Muskingum County, where he touched the lives of countless students. He taught for 30 years as well as continuing with his interest in agriculture. After retiring he had a second career as co-owner of McNutt Farm II School, where he continued his lifetime interest in sustainable/diversed farming for 30 years. Don was very active in his local community, having belonged to the following organizations: Lifetime member of the American Legion, VFW Post 1058, Ohio State Retired Teachers Association, Muskingum County Retired Teachers Association, The Weston A. Price Foundation, Muskingum County Farm Bureau, R-Calf USA, 33 years on the board of directors of the Muskingum County Humane Society and eight years on the Franklin Local School Board. He was preceded in death by his two children, Charlotte Jane McNutt Koehler (Jeff) of Roseville and Don O. (Patricia) of Spencer, W.Va. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Patty L. McNutt; three sons, R. Reed (Bobbie) of Tryon, N.C., Patrick L. (Linda) of Raleigh, N.C., Michael M. (Phyllis) of New Concord; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great- grandchildren. Funeral services were Nov. 21, 2009, at the Thompson-Farus Funeral Home, Duncan Falls. The Rev. Gay Blau officiated Burial was in Ark Spring Cemetery.
