NEW CONCORD -- Ken Blood was elected president of the East Muskingum Local Board of Education Thursday when the board met at East Muskingum Middle School. Brian Bennett was elected vice president. Board members agreed to keep the regular meeting time and place the same -- 7:30 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month in the board room of the district's Administrative Center. In another matter, the board offered congratulations to Taylor Bugglin, a National Merit Commended Student. "Taylor continues a long tradition National Merit students at John Glenn High School going back I don't know how many years," Superintendent James Heagen said. "You have a career of hard work," Heagen told her. "We're very proud of you and we know you will represent John Glenn High School very well." Bugglin said she plans to attend Marietta College and eventually become an English teacher. Steve Brooks, assistant principal at John Glenn High School, offered the board an information sheet about the "Random Acts of Kindness and Student of the Month Recognition Program." The program is not an academic honor, but a character-based award. Heagen asked whether there had been a change at the school since the program was implemented. "I feel like there has," Brooks said. "But I can't put my finger on it. It's hard to put it into something tangible." Comments
