Miriam L. Hawes

Miriam L. Hawes, 90, of New Concord, passed away Thursday (Feb. 11, 2010) at Cambridge Health Care Center.

She was born Feb. 24, 1919, in New Concord, daughter of the late Walter McRae and Margaret Mae (Whitaker) Hawes.

Miriam was a member of Claysville United Methodist Church, a graduate of Muskingum University, lifetime member of the Guernsey County Genealogical Society, member of First Families of Guernsey County, Guernsey County Historical Society, Delta Kappa Gamma, Retired Teachers Association, Farm Bureau and the Golden Sixties.

She taught home economics and English at Stark County Middle Branch, Senecaville, Cumberland and Meadowbrook. And she was a librarian at Meadowbrook.

She was preceded in death by several cousins.

Surviving is a cousin, Charles Whitaker Turner of Winona Lake, Ind.

Funeral services were Feb. 15, 2010, at the Bundy-Law Funeral Home, Cambridge.

The Rev. Dan Richter will officiate.

Burial will be in Northwood Cemetery.
