Robert Vernon Barr

NEW CONCORD -- Robert Vernon Barr, 84, of Norwich, passed away at 10:03 p.m. Thursday (March 4,2010) at Genesis-Good Samaritan Hospital, Zanesville.

He was born July 20, 1925, in Highland Township, Muskingum County, a son of the late Harry Freeman Barr and Laura Russell Barr Webb.

He was employed by Ohio Power at Philo as a welder from 1946 to 1969. He was also a farmer, and was active in the oil and natural gas business.

His wife of 52 years, Patricia McDonald Barr, passed away May 12, 1999. Also deceased are brothers, Charles, Wilmer, Donald, Thomas and Virgil; sisters, Evelyn Williams and Margaret Mathers; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He is survived by his children, Shirley (Paul) McCulley of New Concord, Sandra (Earl) Beatty of New Concord, Robert W. (Laura Jane ) Barr of New Concord, Sarah (Bob) Phillips of Norwich, Raymond (Chae) Barr of New Concord, Sherry Pickens of Norwich, Ron (Annie) Barr of New Concord, Roger (Jo) Barr of New Concord and Richard Barr of New Concord; sister, Isabella Bowers of Dayton; brother, Harper (Eileen) Barr of New Concord; two half-sisters; two half-brothers; 36 grandchildren; 65 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were March 9 at the Bloomfield Presbyterian Church, near New Concord. Pastor John Lufkin officiated.

The Mock-Miller Funeral Home, New Concord., was in charge of arrangements.

Burial will be in Bloomfield Cemetery.
