It was one of our most popular columns."Farmer John" -- who at one time lived outside Birmingham in Guernsey County -- received thousands of letters, tips and recipes from the readers of Ohio newspapers in which his column appeared. He weekly invited them to send him questions on lawn, flowers or garden, tips or hints, which he would share. He regularly offered a suggestion for readers to help others if they were able, and he used the words "sunshine" and "smiles" a lot."Being the thoughtful man I knew, he would not have wanted to have left his readers without knowing the reason for why he stopped writing in your newspaper, why he stopped writing a column he's been so passionate about for many decades. He cared so very much about his readers that we (Paul's family) often considered the readers his extended family," said Tony Edwards.C.
