NEW CONCORD — Charles W. “Bill” Morgan Sr., 83, of Norwich, died Sunday afternoon (April 10, 2011) in his Main Street home after a long illness.
He was born July 16, 1927, in Perry County, son of the late Dwight and Mary Thiven Morgan.
Mr. Morgan was a Presbyterian by faith and a member of Malta Lodge F&AM Lodge 118 of Norwich.
He retired from CM Luburgh Construction and was also former manager of the Shenandoah Truck Stop. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was former mayor of Norwich, where he served for 20 years, and owned many area businesses.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy G. Leasure Morgan, whom he married June 5, 1948; daughter, Connie (Roger) McManaway; son, Charles “Chuck” W. (Carol) Morgan Jr.; sisters, Barbara Grewell, Carol Whissel, Francis (Sam) Jurkovich, and Norma Kemper; brothers, Daryl (Jane) Morgan, Donnie (Karen) Morgan; several grandchildren, Bill (Missy) Morgan, Brad (Kelli) Morgan, Andrea (Homer) Griffith, Krista Morgan, Troy McManaway, Dawn (Jamie) Pollock and Brock Morgan; three stepgrandchildren, Chuck Hooper, Angie Decker and Jeanie Chapman; 20 great-grandchildren; seven stepgreat-grandchildren; six stepgreat-great-grandchildren, and one on the way.
Funeral services were April 14 at the Mock-Miller Funeral Home, 63 W. Main St., New Concord, with the Rev. Nathan Nordine officiating.
Malta Lodge F&AM 118 conducted Masonic services April 13.
Burial followed in Zanesville Memorial Park with veterans service by the Guernsey County Veteran's Council.
