NEW CONCORD William T. Bill Hammer, 79, of New Concord, passed away Saturday evening (Dec. 31, 2011) at Genesis Hospice, Zanesville.

He was born Aug. 12, 1932, in Mount Perry, the son of the late Clint E. and Nelda R. Arbuckle Hammer.

Mr. Hammer was a U.S. Army veteran, and a graduate of Muskingum College. He retired in 1986 as teacher and coach at John Glenn High School, and retired in 2007 as an employee of Wildfire Golf Course.

He was in the John Glenn High School Hall of Fame and the Ohio Golf Coaches Hall of Fame. He was a member of New Concord United Methodist Church.

He was past master of Guernsey Free and Accepted Masons Lodge No. 632, member of the Scottish Rite, York Rite Bodies, Alladin Shrine, Kambri Shrine, and Guernsey Chapter No. 211 Order of the Eastern Star. He was also a member of the Cambridge Eagles Aerie 386.

He is survived by his wife, Beryl Lee Warne Hammer, whom he married Sept. 5, 1952; daughter, Lisa L. (Buddy) Deaton of Pataskala, sons, William Micheal Hammer of Council Bluff, Iowa, and Steven T. (Carla) Hammer of Pataskala; grandchildren, William Joseph Hammer, Jennifer (Wayne) Wentland, Robert E. Deaton, Ryan T. Deaton, and Sarah M. Hammer; great-grandchildren, Alora B. Hammer, Brendan Wentland and Parker Wentland.

Services were Jan. 5, 2012, at the Mock-Miller Funeral Home, 63 W. Main St., New Concord, with Guernsey Lodge F&AM No. 66 holding service. Services will be held 1 p.m. The Rev. Steven Sullivan officiated.

Burial was in New Concord Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Genesis Hospice and Palliative Care, 713 Forest Ave., Zanesville, Oh 43701.
