NEW CONCORD — Richard A. (Dick) Tom, 85, of Norwich, passed away Saturday morning (March 17, 2012) at this home following a brief illness.
He was born Sept. 21, l926, near New Concord, a son of the late Herbert and Hazel Waddell Tom.
He was a partially retired general contractor. He was a member of the New Concord United Methodist Church for 75 years and was a 50-year member of the F&AM Malta Lodge 118 of Norwich, the Scottish Rite Valley of Cambridge, and the Order of the Eastern Star, Laura Chapter 264 of Norwich.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Effie Tucker Tom, whom he married May 3, l952; daughter, Jennifer Sue Tom Kane of Ojai, Calif.; son-in-law, James Brock of Sun Valley, Calif.; sister, Bernice McKirahan of Norwich; brothers, Dale Tom of Zanesville, Gene Tom of North Canton, Russell (Debbie) Tom of Zanesville, and Joe Tom of New Concord; five granddaughters, Erin Brock Treanor, Danielle Kane, Jessica Kane Allner, Laura Brock Holmes, and Kristin Kane; seven great-grandchildren, Isabelle Allner, Nathaniel Allner, Alexandra Allner, Ryen Treanor, Brody Treanor, Liam Holmes, and Olin Kane Palladino; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Jane Marie Tom Brock; and a sister, Donna Horton.
Services were March 21 at the New Concord United Methodist Church, 20 E. High St., New Concord, with the Rev. Steve Sullivan officiating.
Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery, Byesville, with military services by the Guernsey County Veterans Council.
