Happy New Year's Eve! I hope that everyone had a nice Christmas.
We get a real Christmas tree every year (per Aaron's request) and every year I insist that buying an artificial tree would me much nicer. Well, while surfing online the other day I found these facts about live Christmas trees and they have changed my mind ... we will continue to have the live tree:
* There are approximately 30-35 million real Christmas trees sold in North America every year.
* North-American real Christmas trees are grown in all 50 states and Canada. Eighty-five percent of artificial trees are manufactured in China.
* Real Christmas trees are a renewable, recyclable resource. Artificial trees contain non-biodegradable plastics.
* For every real Christmas tree harvested, up to three seedlings are planted in its place the following spring.
* There are about 500,000 acres in production for growing Christmas trees. Each acre provides the daily oxygen requirements of 18 people.
* There are about 21,000 Christmas tree growers in North America, and over 100,000 people employed full or part-time in the industry.
* The top selling Christmas trees are: Balsam fir, Douglas-fir, Fraser fir, noble fir, Scotch pine, Virginia pine, and white pine.
Santa delivered two little recliners for Paige and Rylan Christmas day. I have always thought that kid-sized furniture is cute, but you should see the kids sitting in them ... very cute!
And if the kid-recliners weren't enough, while shopping the other day we stopped at Petco. There they have kid-sized shopping carts! Both Paige and Rylan pushed one around the store. I thought that this would be a good idea for other stores but have since reconsidered ... could you imagine kids having their own cart at K-mat? Besides banging into people, it would be full of toys, candy and who knows what else! But, at Petco it was fun. The cart even had a little flag that said "Customer in Training!"
Aaron found this little tid-bit for me the other day. In case you aren't a HUGE Dallas Cowboys fan like Aaron, the Cowboys are building a new stadium and tearing down their old one. The door from the Dallas Cowboys cheerleader's locker room sold for $5,050 at an auction. Is it really worth that?
We were having unseasonably warm weather this past weekend. When I checked channel 2 (the local cable station) for the temperature it said that it was 161 degrees outside. (According to the channel it is live weather from outside the radio station on College Hill). It also said that the low for the day was negative 67 degrees.
I thought that was funny ...
