Jon Jee - Back in Business

Taylor Bugglin Published:

Well, people, we're back in business. We're now three (partial) weeks into the school year, and we can no longer pretend that this is just a bad dream we're having at 10 in the morning on a Tuesday because, no matter what our crazy "dream-friends" tell us, it's actually still summer, and we're going to wake up in a couple of hours, eat our breaklunch (is it breakfast, or is it lunch? No one really knows), watch some crappy daytime television (if we're really lucky, we might find a Mythbusters marathon), and invent new hobbies for ourselves (a few summers ago I found some clay and made some stop-motion videos). I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but summer is over, and we are all awake.

So, to get down to that business I mentioned earlier: As the Jon Jee editor this year, I'd like to thank you, dear readers, on behalf of the entire publications staff, for picking up this first issue of the 47th year of the Jon Jee. You're off to a great start.

You should really consider making this a habit. By the way, please feel free to bring any John Glenn stories, Jon Jee feedback, etc., to a member of the publications staff. We value your input.

And I'd also like to give a few pieces of beginning-of-the-year advice. Freshmen, get involved. I know you hear it over and over again, but I don't know that you can ever hear it too much. My involvement in extracurriculars has caused most of my friendships from high school.

Sophomores, okay, yeah, you have the OGTs this year. And you'll get tired of being taught to test standards, and you'll get tired of having it constantly over your head. But it will be over eventually, and then you'll realize it wasn't quite as painful as you thought.

Juniors, you're now seen as big dogs, but, to quote Spiderman, "With great power comes great responsibility." Please, prove my point and don't shove freshmen into lockers.

I also suggest you start doing college searching this year. My mom made me look for colleges last year (thanks, Mom!). And now I'm already well into the application process. I'll have a little less to worry about as those deadlines come up.

And to all of my fellow seniors, let's get that college stuff done, take our vitamins to fend off senioritis, and try to think of this year as more than just "surviving until May." Let's live it up and make this year something awesome.
