NEW CONCORD -- For a trio of recent John Glenn grads, football isn't over just yet.
Jeremy Rice, Tim Chumney and Corey Lee recently signed to play Division III football for local programs.
"They've all been an important part of our program for a few years now," John Glenn coach John Kelley said. "They're all competitive guys and really filled that role you need. We're always excited about our kids that are going to move on to the next level."
Rice and Chumney will play for Marietta College in 2009 while Lee will stay home to play for Muskingum College.
"Jeremy's been a mainstay on the lines for the last years and Tim was a receiver that really blossomed into a kicker for us," Kelley said.
Rice excelled at offensive tackle and nose guard for John Glenn and plans to continue at tackle with possible time on the defensive front for Marietta.
He plans to major in accounting with a CPA as well as a minor in business management with a certificate in leadership.
Rice was selected for the Archie Griffin Award and the Wendy's High School Heisman award in 2009.
"He was just such a solid player for us," Kelley said. "He's a great leader. The kind of thing you want to see. He just did everything you could expect."
Rice earned first-team Eastern District Division III and Muskingum Valley League honors and was a special mention player on the D-III All-Ohio squad.
Chumney will kick for the Pioneers, but has not decided on a major.
"He was been in the background for a while because we had some really good kickers here," Kelley said. "He got his opportunity and really did well for us. He's a great kid and the work ethic that is necessary. I could see him developing further."
He finished the 2008 season with a receiving touchdown, three field goals and 18 extra points.
Lee will be playing wide receiver for the Muskies and plans to major in Physical Education.
"Corey's had some injury problems and really didn't come on until late in the season, so I think he sees this as an opportunity to make up some lost ground," Kelley said.
