Girls tournament drawings held

Although the snow slowed down the stretch drive of the regular season somewhat, sectional tournament draws went on as scheduled throughtout the Eastern District on Sunday.

Sectional tournament play will begin on Wednesday, Feb. 17, with Division II action at Ohio University Eastern in St. Clairsville and Coshocton; Division III play in Cambridge and Dover; and Division IV action at Claymont and Union Local.

Division II

At Coshocton

COSHOCTON -- Minerva High slipped past the Zanesville High Lady Blue Devils to snare the No. 1 seed at the Coshocton Division II Sectional drawing.

Minerva (15-2) received a first-round bye, and will be idle until Saturday, Feb. 20 at 6 p.m. when they take on the winner of Philo (3-14) and River View (2-15), who will kick off the tournament action on Wednesday, Feb. 17 at 6 p.m.

The other opening night match-up will have Morgan (8-11) battling Maysville (10-7) on Wednesday, Feb. 17 at 8 p.m. The winner of that game will then meet No. 4 New Philadelphia (11-5) on Saturday, Feb. 20 at 8 p.m.

The upper bracket title game will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 24 at 7 p.m. with the winner advancing to the Tri-Valley Division II District.

In lower bracket action, Dover (9-8) will battle Claymont (8-9) on Thursday, Feb. 18 at 7 p.m. The winner of the contest will take on No. 3 seed West Holmes (13-5) on Monday, Feb. 22 at 8 p.m.

In the first game on Monday, Feb. 22 at 6 p.m. the No. 2 Zanesville (15-3) will take on John Glenn (3-15), which was the 11th seed. The lower bracket championship game will take place on Friday, Feb. 26 at 7 p.m., with the winner advancing to the Tri-Valley Division II District.
