The boys basketball opened their season with a win last night at Philo. The boys were supposed to open the season against West Muskingum, but that game will be played on a date to be determined after the success of the football team caused the game to be pushed back. The game that was scheduled for December 8th against Crooksville will now be played on December 5th.
The John Glenn boys are looking to improve from their overall 19-8 record last season. The team has seven returning lettermen and five seniors. The team has the five senior which are; Justin Heacock. Casey Smith, Nick Meinert, Carter Buchtel, and Shane Bonner. The juniors for the team are Josh Raley, Jack Williams, Jacob Blair, Jonah Hanes, Joseph Clifford, Cameron Lake, Matt Lowery, and Jaret Vincent. The sophomores are Sam Kumler, Reece Perkins, Ben Judd, Jack Meinert, Steele Paden, Bo Orecchio, Clayton Reed, and Evan Williams. The freshmen this year are Skyler Bates, Braeden Young, Wes Ellsworth, Ethan Keyosky, Levi Rinehart, Logan Hickle, and Jordan .
Senior Justin Heacock who has played basketball since the third grade is excited and feels confident going into this season. Heacock said that he feels like the team can have a successful year. He said that this team has a lot of depth and they have many guys who can play key roles. The senior also said that the team worked hard all offseason, and now they are practicing hard. Heaccock said he is most excited to see how the team develops from the start of the season to the end.
Junior Parker Zachrich said he has been playing for as long as he can remember. He said that the team has some strong players and leaders returning and they are feeling pretty optimistic. Zachrich also said that the team has a lot of depth, and they should be able to compete very well. He said he has been preparing for this season by getting into a gym and getting shots up. He said that he is excited for this year because the season will be fun with the great group of guys on the team.
The John Glenn boys are ready to take the floor. After years of impressive accomplishments, the team is ready to continue the success. The boys will begin a season of success this Tuesday. The season is bound to be just as outstanding as past years. Go John Glenn!
